Maxwell Imai Weiss

Max has been active in Japanese venture capital for over 10 years, working with groups like B Dash Ventures, one of Japan’s first independent VC funds, and FFG Ventures, the VC arm of The Bank of Fukuoka, Japan’s largest regional banking conglomerate. He has also guest lectured about entrepreneurship at The University of Tokyo and the Kyoto Institute of Technology.

Dr. Jason Nye

Dr. Nye is an international relations, trade, and investment executive with more than two decades of commercial and government experience with investment, JV creation, and negotiated sales totaling over $55 Billion.

Yutaka Imaizumi

Partner

Yutaka Imaizumi has more than 15 years of professional experience in the financial and information technology sectors, including in management roles in fund raising and fund management, business development, and sales and negotiation supported by his broad network of investor relationships in Japan and Asia. He previously served in sales and business development management roles in New York with a subsidiary of Japan based IT consulting company. Later, he served as Chief of Staff in an advanced energy technology JV between the US and Japan, where he was responsible for developing global supply chains and for organizing and prioritizing critical issues for chief executives of the company. A graduate of Hosei University, he has also studied marine science at Coastal Carolina University, SC and is eager to contribute to global environmental conservation and reducing marine pollution.

Geoff Ayres is a Partner at Pacific Bays Capital and a Business Development Executive of a Family office based in Hong Kong, responsible for business development and relationship management. Prior to joining the family office, Geoff was a founding member and Business Development Manager at INFORICH, the operator of “ChargeSPOT,” Japan’s largest mobile battery-sharing service, which went public on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s Growth Market in 2022.

Geoff is involved in investment as a blockchain VC, focusing on early-stage investments in Web3/blockchain businesses.

Koji Muto

Venture Partner

Koji was most recently an Executive Officer and Head of Business Development at Binance Japan after his startup Sakura Exchange Bitcoin (originally Xtheta) was acquired by the cryptocurrency exchange. Koji founded Xtheta in 2017 following reforms to the Payment Services Act in Japan to become one of a limited number of licensed cryptocurrency exchange brokers with the Japan Financial Services Agency. Koji has been an active investor in global cryptocurrency projects since 2012.

Kiko has been responsible for some of Japan’s largest global technology conferences at Nikkei (owner of the Financial Times), where he held global conferences yearly in each of AI, AgTech, and FinTech. Speakers include from government such as Prime Minister Abe and the Governor of the Bank of Japan, to major industry figures like Rakuten CEO Hiroshi Mikitani, CEO of NEC, CEO of Sumitomo Mitsui Bank, and the President of the University of Tokyo, and senior executives from Sony, Hitachi, SoftBank, and others.

Yasu is founder of Cadena, a Japanese consultancy specializing in identifying hidden yet highly technical and globally sought after technologies and devices that are born within traditional Japanese small businesses and large corporates, and supporting commercialization through business planning, organizational development, and sales growth.

Jaan Tallinn

Jaan Tallinn is a founding engineer of Skype and Kazaa. He is a co-founder of the Cambridge Centre for the Study of Existential Risk, the Future of Life Institute, and philanthropically supports other existential risk research organisations. Jaan is on the Board of Sponsors of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, and has served on the High-Level Expert Group on AI at the European Commission, as well as on the Estonian President’s Academic Advisory Board. He is also an active angel investor, a partner at Ambient Sound Investments, and a former investor director of the AI company DeepMind.

Kaz Terada

Kaz was formerly a managing director and a board member of ITOCHU Technology Ventures, Inc. He has led ITOCHU’s Venture Investment efforts in the US, and established ITOCHU’s first U.S. VC fund, Horizon Ventures. He is currently CEO of A2O, Inc., a founding board member of TiE Japan and a board member of Macnica Fuji Electronics Holdings, Inc.

Fred Almeida

Fred is a leading expert in the field of AI, with over 12 years of experience in the industry. He has founded one of Japan’s first AI startups and several others since then including in self driving technology, autonomous robotics, LLM and voice systems to Web3/AI hybrids. His previous AI company sold its autonomous unit to a major Japanese manufacturer, and was ranked the #1 startup to work for in Japan by LinkedIn in 2022.
